IGT
ICT stands for “IGT” and is the third of the five classifications of wines transposed in Italy. It is a classification that includes wines produced in very large geographical areas but following specific requirements.
In order for a wine to qualify as IGT 85% of it must be made exclusively from grapes grown in the geographical area of origin, for which their organoleptic properties are indicated.
The qualification IGT is very important because it is the first step that separates it from common table wines: it provides, in fact, guidance on origin and properties of the wine.
These wines may complete the label in addition to the indication of color, even the grapes used and the year of harvest.
Tuscany has a large selection of wines classified as exclusively IGT produced with local varieties.
